at the heart of the kitchen is a wood-charcoal grill, where our kitchen team fast-cook seafood just caught from rye bay, local meats and vegetables.
For breakfast, have poached eggs and smashed avo on sourdough, buttermilk pancakes with blueberries, or ‘The Full George’? Work your way through our delicious menu, served from 8am to 10am every day of the week.

The headboard and curtains in Room 1 were made from an antique `suzani`, which is Farsi for a piece of fabric made with intricate needlework.
We love the bold shapes and faded vintage feel.

A trip to Great Dixter isn’t all about the gardens you know..

Built around a 15th-century timber-framed hall, Great Dixter, the house was restored and expanded in 1910 by the great Arts and Crafts architect Sir Edwin Lutyens, working alongside homeowner and gardener Nathaniel Lloyd.
The result is a wonderfully atmospheric mix of medieval structure and early 20th-century craftsmanship — oak beams, open hearths, carved panelling and a sense of warmth that feels timeless.
In the quieter months, wandering the house gives you space to appreciate its history and personality — not least the spirit of Christopher Lloyd, whose flair and creativity still seem to linger in every room.
