“A soul-nourishing 24 hours in medieval Rye with brilliant company, hosted by two exceptional women: the visionary @arabellapreston of @verden.world and the boundless Katie of @thegeorgeinrye — our luxuriously appointed home for the night.
The George is a place of heart and heritage, lovingly restored by Katie (a former film art director) and now scented with Verden’s natural fragrances — longtime studio favourites — in rooms full of comfort, detail and charm.
We arrived to a feast of local seafood and Kent-grown @gusbourne_wine rosé, then wandered cobbled streets to @lambhouse_nt once home to Henry James, its walled garden calm and quietly exquisite. We explored @mccullyandcrane @soapandsalvation and climbed the Church of Saint Mary’s bell tower for breathtaking views.
Our first yin yoga class, led by the radiant @jojoyogacreative took place in The George’s ballroom — complete with De Gournay walls and its own pulpit. Cocktails (including the iconic Verdentini), canapés and stories from the wonderful planner Anna Campanella followed, as did tales of Katie and Alex’s inspiring journey from London creatives to devoted local hoteliers.
The evening ended with a Verden-scented, candlelit dinner surrounded by @david_austin_roses grown by Katie’s sister, @tambuziroses — a dream.
Though we missed @greatdixterofficial , @bylaurenmcdermott portraits and garden captures are a beautiful keepsake of a retreat we won’t forget.
