After trawling the Internet, overwhelmed by choice, it was actually Charlotte who suggested ‘The George in Rye’ as the Argyrou go-to for romantic getaways. And it didn’t disappoint. The George is located in a prime position on Rye’s pretty cobble-stoned High Street, punctuated with antique shops, pubs and tearooms.

The George certainly hit the mark when it came to providing some character – the hotel has 34 individually styled rooms, each with their own quirks and colour palettes.

I was feeling flush so plumped for Room One, a Junior Suite with a heavenly four-poster bed, enormous bathroom and private front door opening onto a pretty courtyard.
