Christmas 2016 Newsletter

Dear Georgians

Our Christmas decorations are up and looking fabulous! This year we have outdone ourselves with a new addition, Santa’s grotto George-style – we recommend pairing a visit with our gingerbread cocktail to get you in the festive mood! And if you’re dining in The Grill, watch out for the flying fish amongst the stars!

This Saturday the town of Rye is celebrating Christmas the Dickensian way. The ‘Great Expectations’ event will include street and music performances, a Christmas market, pottery and drawing workshops – to name but a few of the things going on. Father Christmas will be arriving via boat (with the help of the local RNLI) and there’s even an ice rink at Strand Quay! Make sure you gather outside The George at 5:15 for the lighting of the Christmas tree – we’ll be handing out mince pies and mulled wine. For further information on what’s happening and when, see the website.

Over in The Shop Next Door we’re delighted to let you know that due to huge demand our colourful Moroccan slippers are back! We also love the Indian scarves new in store – our favourite is the sequined cashmere & silk. If you’re stuck for that last present, don’t forget we sell vouchers – beautifully printed and embossed with silver. These can be used in the shop or in the hotel and you can choose any value from £5 upwards – available via reception, 01797 222114.

If you’re thinking of a day trip between Christmas and New Year, the vast, sandy beach at Camber Sands can be beautiful and invigorating on a winter’s day. You can then pop in and sample one of our festive afternoon teas with a clear conscience – available throughout December. Our white chocolate tea cake has become a firm favourite.

Finally, we’re delighted to let you know that in partnership with our generous guests, we’ve donated over £7,000 to seven local charities this year, including Charity for Kids, St Michael’s Hospice and the Rye & District Day Centre. A massive “thank you” for your support.

We wish you a wonderful Christmas and a peaceful and happy New Year.

Alex & Katie Clarke.
