This month began when Alex spilled his coffee everywhere after he opened the Sunday paper and spotted that The George has been voted one of the top 5 UK hotels by readers of The Observer, in their annual travel awards. Crikey! For those of you who voted for us, thank you so much – it’s very much appreciated (even if it did mean Alex ruined one of his shirts).

A special event takes place on Saturday 6th December, when a whole host of festive happenings take over Rye. There will be a Christmas Fair, street performances, drummers drumming, pipers piping, culminating at 5.00pm with the lighting of the town Christmas Tree and a Fireworks Display. And at 5.30, Father Christmas ride in a horse-drawn carriage over to his Grotto in the Rye Castle Museum, which includes face-painting for kids. All that seems to be missing from proceedings is a partridge in a pear tree. Do pop in for a glass of something if you’re around.

For friends and family who have everything – right down to the Nintendo Wii Fit – we are offering gift vouchers for The George in Rye which make lovely Christmas presents. You can choose any denomination, or a choice of three special breaks. Just choose the one you’d like and we’ll post the voucher in festive gift-wrap straight to you or your recipient. Order your gift vouchers here.

If you’re making up your mind about New Year’s Eve, this might help: book a one night New Year’s package at The George in Rye, and as well as all the included partying and feasting, we are delighted to offer a complimentary bottle of champagne at midnight to the guests who fill our last two rooms. Prices for the whole break start at £240 per person which includes reception drinks, wine, a 4-course dinner, casino and dancing to a live band. If you’d like to take advantage of the offer, mention “Champagne offer” when you make your reservation.

Finally, it was lovely to see some of you on Saturday for the Rye Bonfire Procession. The George Tap was packed with people getting one of the best views of the event over a glass or two (or three) of mulled wine. There was a bewitching array of costumes, flares and fireworks that wound its way around the town. If you missed it this year, do put it in your diary for next November!

Best Wishes
Alex & Katie Clarke
