Ever wonder how the National Trust look after their lovely homes and properties  – who exactly are the army of elves who repair furniture, polish the silver and generally keep things looking spick and span? You have a chance to find out on 2nd March, at ‘Mrs Kipling’s Guide to Good House Keeping’, an exclusive tour at Rudyard Kipling’s old home Bateman’s led by their chief housekeeper, where you will discover how the contents have been cared for over the last century. The National Trust say booking is essential, so you’d better do as they say if you’re keen! More details here.

If your tastes run more to the raucous end of the spectrum, then do join us for our latest comedy night on Friday 25th March – as well as all the usual treats you get when staying at The George in Rye, you can relieve the stress of the past week with a lineup of fine standup and a nice glass of wine. The night’s package is £135 per person which includes a three course dinner in the restaurant and breakfast the next day. Find out more and book here.

Calling all couples: we’re very excited to be introducing a new package this month, which is stricly for those celebrating their wedding anniversary. Stay with us for your celebration (within a month of the date), and you’ll receive 15% off your stay. This rises to 25% if you’ve been married 25 years plus (we just need proof from a wedding picture or certificate….). If you’d like to treat your loved one to a surprise, ask us if you’d like any inroom goodies, like a massage, box of chocolates or flowers. Highly suitable if your parents are celebrating their Gold or Ruby years, also! Get the details here.

Finally, in honour of Rye’s annual scallop festival, which has been taking place this week, and for all those who couldn’t be here in person to participate in the gluttony, here’s one of our favourite scallop recipes for you to enjoy at home. This is one from Mark Hix, where the scallops are paired with split peas and Ham hock – yum!

Best Wishes

Alex and Katie Clarke
