Our dream was to create an elegant and approachable wedding venue, and we hope you will agree that weddings at The George are rather special. Whatever the style of wedding, every couple’s personal approach seems to work. The galleries below illustrate the romance and delight of a number of our weddings.
Luxurious and intimate, our 40 bedrooms are a place to retreat, relax and unwind. Each room tells its own story to captivate and enchant. Carefully sourced antiques and sumptuous beds with Egyptian cotton linens in every room. The bathrooms all have waterfall showers and roll top baths in the larger rooms.
Bridal suite (Room 12) – With its dusty pink walls and sumptuous fabrics, you can’t help but to fall for the charm and romance of this room. It has a super king size bed, a roll top bath and a separate bathroom. There is a large sofa and chairs, offering you a generous seating area with space for the bride and bridesmaids to get ready.
The Georgian Town Hall, with its distinctive façade, is just up the hill from The George and within easy walking distance.
The Town Crier, in his vibrant ceremonial robes, will greet your guests on arrival and then escort you to the main building’s chamber for the ceremony. After the ceremony, when everyone is gathered outside, he will deliver the wedding ‘cry’, announcing your marriage to the town. He will then lead you and your wedding party down the hill to The George after the ceremony.
St Mary’s, the Parish church of Rye, dates back to the 12th Century. Its bells were re-captured from French raiders at a time when the sea used to lap the walls of the citadel at high tide and Rye became an island.
Situated at the highest point of the town and just around the corner from The George, it is surrounded by pretty cottages and stunning views across the marshes towards the sea.
Elegant and intimate the 17th century Long Room has soft lighting, and a small balcony, which opens out on the front of the hotel. This room is calm and relaxing and perfect for your drinks reception. It also links to the Sitting Room a cosy and informal space the beautiful soft seating.
As an upgrade and particularly popular in the summer, drinks can be served in our pretty Court Yard. The Champagne and Oyster bar is an exciting and indulgent treat for your guests bringing that coastal vibe to your day.
Rye is nestled between the green rolling hills of the Weald and the sandy beaches of Camber both of which are 5 minutes away.
The medieval town has sweeping views from its hilltop location right across the marshes toward the sea.
There are many meandering cobbled streets and pretty half-timbered houses all of which lend themselves to the perfect romantic back drops for your wedding photos.
Our head chef has designed two elegant menus for seasonal inspired dinning. Using produce from local farms, fishermen and cheesemakers. You can indulge your guest, with the choicest cuts and inspirational ingrediencies to create your own unique menu that echos the George’s ethos of sustainability. Our famous oyster bars, whether large or small, are show stoppers for guests.
We have an extensive list of fine wines, which includes a number of English wines from Sussex and Kent. The wedding package includes wines from the award winning Chapel Down vineyard from our neighbouring town of Tenterden.
The Magnificent Georgian Ballroom, with hand-painted Chinoiserie panelled walls, is a magical space for your wedding breakfast. There are two fireplaces, large bay windows, high ceilings, a minstrels’ gallery and a large bar area. It can seat up to eighty guests on eight 5ft round tables or up to sixty eight guests on long tables.
For smaller, more intimate weddings, the elegant 16th Century Long Room can seat up to forty guests on four 5ft round tables or up to 34 guest on long tables.
The Ballroom transforms into a spectacular evening entertainment space. Book your band or DJ and dance the night away underneath the twinkle of our meter size disco ball.
There is a bar at one end where we are happy to serve cocktails and other drinks of your choice.
