The George in Rye is a 34-room boutique hotel with an independent restaurant, “The George Grill”, a bar/pub and courtyard (100 covers in total) – and a ballroom which caters for weddings and private dining.
The George is one of the founding examples of a boutique English country coaching inn, employing exceptional standards of comfort, food and hospitality. The business has grown steadily over the last ten years, most notably with the extension of the business to incorporate a new kitchen for “the grill”, a doubling of the restaurant seating area, and the addition of ten further bedrooms. Although founded in 1575, The George receives ongoing investment to maintain the high levels our customers have come to expect.
We have won many awards, including runner-up of “Independent Hotel of the Year” (Independent Hotel Show), and “Best Luxury Staycation” (Daily Express), “Top 10 UK Romantic Hotel” Sunday Times and shortlisted for Best Wedding Venue London & South East (TWIA). We are very much a destination hotel, and a member of Mr & Mrs Smith as well as other premium hotel marketing groups – as well as being somewhat of a local institution having a loyal following of customers.

After a fire on 20th July, we have had to temporarily close The George hotel and restaurant. We are working hard to make the necessary repairs, and will reopen as soon as we possibly can.
